William Perugini

As a 12 year resident of the Fairfield Beach area, Mr. William Perugini has grown to love the Town of Fairfield even more than he did when he relocated here in 2001. It was the town’s New England charm, friendly and family oriented residents, wonderful educational system, vibrant center, easy commute to Manhattan, ready access to Long Island Sound, fantastic restaurants, and many diverse recreational and cultural activities that first attracted his interest, and has since strengthened his love for Fairfield and its great citizens.

While consumed with his career in the demanding field of Orthopaedics, namely the skeletal reconstruction of patients traumatized by fractures and managed with an array of sophisticated internal and external fixation devices, his long interest in civic activities compelled him to find the time to hold various Board of Director appointments with such leading organizations as the American Red Cross and National Arthritis Foundation, where he played a pivotal role in establishing policy for the 2001 Connecticut Arthritis Action Plan in concert with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health. In addition, his interest in fair and equitable taxation led to his role as Chairman of the Board of Assessment Appeals in one of the largest cities in the state of Connecticut.

Upon advancing his career as an executive in the Orthopaedic device industry where he has worked for 25 years, Mr. Perugini relocated to Fairfield and vacated his position on the Board of Assessment Appeals in his previous city of residence. He then chose to continue his efforts on Community Public Health initiatives by raising funds for the Arthritis Foundation to help fulfill its national mission and raise public awareness in his community. As such, he founded the Arthritis Foundation Fairfield Beach Annual Walk in 2003 and grew that event to be attended by hundreds, gaining acclaim as the flagship of all Arthritis Foundation Walks in New England. In so doing, hundreds of thousands of dollars were generated for the organization and he continued chairing that event for the 6 years to follow.

As a former competitive athlete at the University of Connecticut where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and achieved academic distinction as a member of the National Honor Society, Psi Chi, his athletic success as a starting member for the Men’s Rugby Football Team has led to his lifelong passion for Conditioning and Fitness. As such, he has since earned numerous certifications in this field and was honored to join the Fairfield Health and Fitness Council in 2010 to further contribute to his strong interest in positively impacting the Public Health needs of the community where he resides.

Having been inspired by the bravery of the NYPD and FDNY during the tragic September 11 terrorist attacks, Mr. Perugini developed a great respect and appreciation for all First Responders. As such, shortly after fulfilling his final term with the Arthritis Foundation, he chose to focus his efforts on Public Safety and elected to join the NYPD as a Reserve Officer in a Special Task Force Unit in Manhattan. This unit is tasked with providing citywide support in the management of pedestrians and traffic as a consequence of visits by the President of the United States, United Nations General Assembly dignitaries, events involving celebrity galas, and the many parades hosted in each of the five boroughs of New York City.

Overwhelmingly impressed with the dedicated actions of the Fairfield Police and Fire Departments when personally impacted by Tropical Storm Irene and Super Storm Sandy, Mr. Perugini felt compelled to “give something back” to his community. Having been extremely moved by the challenges his neighbors and friends faced as a consequence of the storm’s vast devastation in the Fairfield Beach area, he chose to continue his work contributing to Public Safety and Disaster Preparedness by joining the Fairfield Community Emergency Response Team under the auspices of the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Management along with the Fairfield Fire Department.

Mr. Perugini now looks forward to the next chapter in his mission to enhance the Public Health, Safety, and Emergency Preparedness in the Town of Fairfield as the District 10 Representative to the RTM. In addition, he feels great confidence that the experience he has gained in Property Valuation and Taxation while Chairman of the Board of Assessment Appeals in one of the largest cities in Connecticut will serve him well in addressing many of the inequities that have plagued the taxpayers of Fairfield over the past several years. He eagerly awaits the opportunity to help contain the escalating cost of living in Fairfield by remedying unfair taxation and working toward a more fiscally conservative approach to the town’s government and spending. On November 5th, he strongly encourages your support in so doing and looks forward to serving the town that he so dearly loves.
